What it is
A covering agreement, not a technical standard
STANAG 2465 is the NATO standardization agreement covering AMedP-1.17, Edition B, the Allied Medical Publication that actually lays out the tasks and skills expected of dental officers and dental personnel deployed on NATO operations. The STANAG itself is administrative: participating nations agree to implement AMedP-1.17, and the substance sits in that publication rather than in this cover. Its stated aim is to enhance interoperability between the dental services of NATO countries.
What nations agree to
Participating nations agree "to standardize the procedures for treatment of dental and maxillofacial patients in accordance with this STANAG in order to comply with the expectations set out in the annexes to the AMedP-1.17." Once a nation has implemented the agreement, it and any NATO bodies involved report their implementation details through NATO's electronic reporting tool, and partner nations are invited to do the same. The agreement is "effective upon receipt for use by the participating nations and NATO bodies," so there is no separate national effective date to track: the NATO Effective Date field on this cover is marked not applicable.
Review, supersession and related agreements
This edition supersedes STANAG 2465, Edition 4, dated 19 January 2017. The STANAG is reviewed in accordance with AAP-03, with the outcome recorded in NATO's Standardization Document Database. Who oversees it
The agreement is supervised under the authority of MCMedSB and MEDSTDWG. There is no certification or third-party audit built into this cover: nations ratify the agreement and report their own implementation, and any ratification reservations, through NATO's electronic reporting tool, rather than being assessed by an outside body.
