What it is
STANAG 4022 is the NATO Standardization Agreement on energetic materials, the specification for RDX (cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, also called hexogen). Edition 5 was promulgated in February 2023 under CNAD, AC/326 CASG, SG/A, EMT and covers the publication AOP-4022 edition A. NATO marks it NATO UNCLASSIFIED and has not released it publicly, so this page describes it from a Czech national standard that implements it.
What the Czech implementation covers
The Czech defence standard ČOS 137608 implements STANAG 4022 edition 5 together with three related agreements: STANAG 4023 (PETN), STANAG 4025 (TNT) and STANAG 4284. Its title concerns raw materials for the production of military explosives, naming hexogen, tritol, octogen and pentrit. The Czech standards index describes it as setting out qualitative requirements for these explosives, intended for deliveries between NATO member states, and as giving uniform test methods for assessing their quality.
The index entry covers all four explosives together rather than singling out RDX (hexogen), so what it confirms about STANAG 4022 specifically is that quality requirements and uniform test methods for hexogen supplied between NATO member states are part of what the combined Czech standard sets out. It gives no further detail on those requirements.
NATO's public AOP-4682 lists STANAG 4022 Ed. 4, Specification for RDX (Hexogene), among its related documents, alongside the specifications for tetryl, PETN, ammonium nitrate, TNT and nitroguanidine.
