STANAG 4204 VULOS single channel VHF radio equipment

STANAG 4204 is NATO's agreement on technical standards for single channel VHF radio equipment, grouped with STANAG 4205 as VULOS. NATO has not released it publicly; this page describes it from AEP-4845, a public NATO publication that cites it.

NATO has not released this STANAG publicly. It is NATO UNCLASSIFIED, and organisations that need it obtain it through their national standardization authority.
What it is
STANAG 4204 is the NATO Standardization Agreement on technical standards for single channel VHF radio equipment. Edition 3 was promulgated on 29 September 2008, and the sponsoring committee is recorded as DPC, DPC, CaP1, LOS CaT. NATO has not released STANAG 4204 publicly, so this page describes it from AEP-4845, a public NATO publication that cites it.
Where it is cited
AEP-4845 discusses STANAG 4204 together with STANAG 4205 in a section on legacy Combat Net Radios, which it describes as available mainly for the dismounted and vehicular domains and specified by NATO STANAG documents. It names the pair VULOS and states: "VULOS is a VHF-UHF Line Of Sight WF capable to provide basic standard analogue voice and data communications to ensure interoperability of land, air and maritime single channel V/UHF radio equipment."
AEP-4845 lists VULOS's characteristics as follows:
- Frequency bands: 30-88 MHz and 225-400 MHz, with 25 kHz bandwidth.
- Modulation: AM, FM, ASK and FSK.
- Operative scenario: ground communications, G-A-G.
- Security: NATO / National Restricted.
In a table of standards, the same publication lists STANAG 4204 / 4205 under line-of-sight voice and data communications, alongside STANAG 4246 (HQ I/II), STANAG 4372 (SATURN ed.4) and the STANAG 5630 series (NATO NB ed.1).
