What it is
STANAG 4300 is the NATO Standardization Agreement on energetic materials, test procedures for assessing the quality of aluminium powder for use in energetic material formulations. Edition 2 was promulgated on 24 May 2018 under NATO's CNAD, AC/326 CASG, SG/A, EMT committee, and it covers the publication AOP-4300. NATO has not released STANAG 4300 publicly, so this page describes it from the Czech defence standard that implements it.
What the Czech implementation covers
The Czech defence standard ČOS 137606 implements STANAG 4300 edition 2 (AOP-4300(A)) together with two related agreements, STANAG 4024 edition 3 and STANAG 4299 edition 1, in a single national standard covering three raw materials used in military explosives: ammonium perchlorate, aluminium powder and ammonium nitrate. Its index entry states that the standard sets out qualitative requirements for these raw materials and lays down uniform test methods for evaluating their quality. Aluminium powder is the material named in STANAG 4300's own title; a public NATO publication, AOP-4682, lists STANAG 4299 as the specification for ammonium perchlorate. A national implementation can add national requirements, so treat this as evidence of what the agreement covers rather than as NATO's own text.
Where it is cited
AOP-4682 lists an earlier edition, STANAG 4300 Ed. 1, as "Test procedures for assessing the quality of Aluminium Powder for use in explosive formulation, for deliveries from one NATO nation to another". STANAG 4682 lists it under its current title with the publication AOP-4300.
