NATO has not released this STANAG publicly. It is NATO UNCLASSIFIED, and organisations that need it obtain it through their national standardization authority.
What it is
STANAG 4620 is the NATO Standardization Agreement on stability test procedures and requirements for nitrocellulose-based propellants using stabilizer depletion. Edition 2 was promulgated in May 2025 under NATO's CNAD, AC/326 CASG, SG/A, EMT, and it covers the publication AOP-48 edition C. NATO has not released STANAG 4620 publicly, so this page describes it from public NATO citations and a Czech defence-standards index entry.
Where it is cited
AOP-7 Edition 2, a declassified NATO publication, notes that STANAGs 4117, 4527, 4541 and 4542, referred to in its aging-protocol tables, will be replaced by AOP-48, "Explosives, Nitrocellulose Based Propellants, Stability Test Procedures and Requirements Using Stabilizer Depletion", and names STANAG 4620 as its covering document.
STANAG 4170, also publicly disclosed, lists STANAG 4620 as the implementation of AOP-48, alongside related explosives test agreements such as STANAG 4556 (vacuum stability) and STANAG 4582 (stability testing of the same propellants using heat flow calorimetry).
The Czech defence-standards index lists STANAG 4620 as one of nineteen STANAGs that the Czech standard ČOS 137601 implements. The index refers to STANAG 4620 Ed 1 (AOP-48 Ed 2), an earlier edition than the current one. The index describes ČOS 137601 as covering the organisation of approving new or modified explosives before they enter service with the Army of the Czech Republic: the approval procedure, the minimum scope of testing, and the procedures for carrying out the individual tests. That description is of ČOS 137601 as a whole, not of STANAG 4620's own stabilizer-depletion method.
