NATO has not released this STANAG publicly. It is NATO UNCLASSIFIED, and organisations that need it obtain it through their national standardization authority.
What it is
STANAG 4679 is the NATO Standardization Agreement covering the specification for energetic materials: amorphous microencapsulated red phosphorus for use in pyrotechnics. Edition 1 was promulgated on 25 May 2018 under CNAD, AC/326 CASG, SG/A, EMT, and it covers AOP-4679(A). NATO has not released STANAG 4679 publicly, so this page describes it from a Czech national implementation and a NATO publication that cites it.
Where it is cited
The Czech defence standards index lists ČOS 137613 as implementing STANAG 4679 edition 1 (AOP-4679(A)). Its description states that the standard sets out common test procedures and qualitative requirements for microencapsulated amorphous red phosphorus, for its use in special-purpose munitions, mainly smoke munitions and pyrotechnic compositions.
A NATO publication, AOP-64, cites STANAG 4679 in a table that pairs effects to look for in pyrotechnic compositions with the tests that detect them. Against red-phosphorus-containing compositions it lists a build-up of phosphine, detected by gas analysis in a closed-vessel test, for example GC/MS or trace-gas analysis with a Draeger tube.
