NATO has not released this STANAG publicly. It is NATO UNCLASSIFIED, and organisations that need it obtain it through their national standardization authority.
What it is
STANAG 5630 is the NATO Standardization Agreement on the Narrowband Waveform (NBWF) for VHF/UHF radios, covering the publications AComP-5630 through AComP-5633 (edition A). Edition 1 was promulgated on 24 April 2019, sponsored by DPC, DPC, CaP1, LOS CaT. NATO has not released STANAG 5630 publicly, so this page describes it from AEP-4845, a public NATO publication that cites it.
Where it is cited
AEP-4845 names the waveform as one way to give a soldier system an interoperable radio. The interoperable radio device, it says, can be a physical Loaned Radio under STANAG 4677 or, more simply, "a common radio based on the same waveform, such as the NATO Narrowband Waveform (NBWF)". Citing STANAG 5630 as a Ratification Draft, it states that with this waveform "SDR became a good alternative to the loan radio". The system it describes exchanges voice, geographical positions and tactical information with coalition forces, and shares power and rechargeable batteries by physical interchange.
AEP-4845 lists "STANAG 5630 Series (NATO NB ed.1)" among its line-of-sight voice and data communications standards. In the section under that heading it states that "The NATO NB is designed with an essential goal, achieving coalition interoperability within lower tactical levels." It also states that "There was and currently is no ratified interoperable Combat Net Radio STANAG available that enables security and supports network centric coalition operations." It describes the waveform as "a waveform with self-forming and self-healing capability" that is able to build a meshed network.
The same publication looks ahead to a second edition: "The Edition 2 is the evolution of NATO NB ed.1 mainly with added EPM capability."
