What it is
STANAG 2286 covers technical criteria for external cargo carrying slings, nets and strops/pendants. Edition 3 was promulgated on 22 February 2024, its sponsoring committee is given as MC, MCLSB, HIS, HUSLEP, and it covers the publication ATP-3.2.49.2.3, edition A. NATO has not released STANAG 2286 publicly, so this page describes it from the Czech defence standards index, whose entry for the Czech defence standard ČOS 156008 lists STANAG 2286 among the agreements that standard implements.
What the Czech implementation covers
According to the index, ČOS 156008, titled in Czech as technical requirements for equipment for the transport of cargo by helicopters, implements STANAG 2286 edition 3 (ATP-3.2.49.2.3(A)) together with STANAG 3542 edition 8 (ATP-3.2.49.2.2(A)). The index entry describes the Czech standard as setting technical requirements for the design and properties of two kinds of equipment: the means of securing cargo carried in a helicopter's cargo cabin, and the slinging equipment for carrying cargo underslung beneath a helicopter, with a load capacity of up to 20,000 kg, and nets with a load capacity of up to 10,000 kg. The index entry does not say which of these requirements come from STANAG 2286 and which from STANAG 3542.
