NATO has not released this STANAG publicly. It is NATO UNCLASSIFIED, and organisations that need it obtain it through their national standardization authority.
What it is
STANAG 3676 is the NATO Standardization Agreement on marginal information on land maps, aeronautical charts and photomaps. NATO promulgated edition 3 in May 2000, under the MC, MCJSB, JGS committee structure. NATO has not released STANAG 3676 publicly, so this page describes it from public NATO geospatial publications that cite its requirements.
Where it is cited
AGeoP-21 states: "The format for notes relating the existing reference system to WGS 84 for land maps, aeronautical charts and photomaps is given in STANAG 3676." AGeoP-23 cites it twice for the legend: "For the languages of the Legend information, see STANAG 3676 para 5", and it states that "Legend information is to be compliant with STANAG 3676."
AGeoP-24, which covers geomagnetic information on maps and charts, cites STANAG 3676 for the preferred format of the three-norths diagram, which shows Grid North, True North and Magnetic North, adding that "the convention is to leave all angles unsigned but shown in their relative position." AGeoP-25 cites STANAG 3676 as the source of guidance for the names disclaimer that appears in a map or chart's lower margin. Four other STANAGs, 3689, 3833, 7164 and 7172, list STANAG 3676 among their related documents without adding further description.
