What it is
STANAG 3748 is the NATO Standardization Agreement on hydraulic fluid, petroleum (H-515), polyalphaolefin (H-537, H-538) and phosphate ester fluids (H-522, H-523, H-524). Edition 5 was promulgated on 18 May 2015 under the sponsoring committee LC, OEC, NFLWG, Aviation FLWP, and it covers the publication AFLP-3748.

Where it is cited
AASSEP-07, NATO's standard for power-driven hydraulic servicing equipment used in aircraft cross-servicing, names STANAG 3748 among its related NATO documents, alongside STANAG 4714 on minimum quality surveillance for lubricants and associated products. AASSEP-07 lists it under a shorter title that names only the petroleum (H-515) and polyalphaolefin (H-537 and H-538) fluids, without the phosphate ester fluids in the current title. AASSEP-07 requires hydraulic supply equipment to deliver fluid to the aircraft that, under dynamic conditions, is at least as clean as it was at the inlet to the ground equipment. It then cites STANAG 3748 for a specific requirement on the fluid the equipment delivers to an aircraft: "The cleanliness level of hydraulic fluids delivered by ground servicing equipment shall meet the standards in NATO Standard AFLP 4714 Table 2-I and STANAG 3748."
STANAG 3510, the agreement that adopts AASSEP-07 as the NATO standard for this equipment, also lists STANAG 3748 among its other related documents.
