STANAG 3158 day marking of airfield runways and taxiways

NATO has not released this STANAG publicly. It is NATO UNCLASSIFIED, and organisations that need it obtain it through their national standardization authority.
What it is
STANAG 3158 is the NATO Standardization Agreement on day marking of airfield runways and taxiways, now in its tenth edition, promulgated 15 July 2026 under NATO's AVC, ATM-CNS AG, AES WG committee. It covers AATMP-05 edition B. NATO has not released STANAG 3158 publicly, so this page describes it from AATMP-12, a public NATO publication that cites it.
Where it is cited
AATMP-12 establishes helipad and heliport marking and lighting standards. Its first chapter lists STANAG 3158, Day Marking of Airfield Runways and Taxiways, as the first of its related documents, alongside STANAG 3316 on airfield lighting, STANAG 3346 on the marking and lighting of airfield obstructions, and ICAO Annex 14 Volume I.
AATMP-12 then cites STANAG 3158 in its section on taxiway markings, which it classes as permissive rather than mandatory. It says taxiway markings include deceptive surfaces, overrun, shoulders and apron markings, and that "When taxiway markings are considered necessary for helipads, they shall be installed in accordance with the criteria stated in STANAG 3158." AATMP-12 does not restate those criteria; for a helipad that needs taxiway markings, it points to STANAG 3158 for them.
