What it is
STANAG 3838 is the NATO agreement on the digital time division command/response multiplex data bus, covering the publication AAVSP-03 edition A. Edition 5 was promulgated on 3 June 2016 under the sponsorship of MC, MCASB, AVS. NATO marks it NATO UNCLASSIFIED but has not released it publicly, so this page describes it from the Czech defence standards index entry for the national standard that implements it.
What the Czech implementation covers
The Czech defence standard ČOS 156012, on the digital multiplex data bus with time-division command/response, implements STANAG 3838 edition 5 (AAVSP-03(A)). Its index entry describes a data bus meant for systems derived from existing systems, or for systems that need a more efficient data bus, and says the standard favours options that give maximum compatibility between the different systems that use it. It adds that some parts of the standard cover redundant applications run in a dual standby mode. The index entry gives no further technical detail beyond this description.
